Cornamenta
3D printed dental resin, wire
12" x 12" x 6"
2023
In 2023 I was invited to ADEMA Universitaria in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, for a three week residency during their annual performance art festival. ADEMA started out with programs in the dietary and dental sciences, and had recently expanded into the visual arts. I was determined to come up with a project that spoke to this unusual pairing.
I made Cornamenta (Catalán for “antlers”) in collaboration with the dental prosthesis technicians at ADMEA. The piece incorporates a pair of 3D scanned and printed elk horns with a custom-fitted bite plate. Portraiture featuring this apparatus depicts me, or perhaps technology itself, as a modern monster hobbled by its very nature.
Exhibited in the Fundación Barceló in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
