Sourcing 3D printing filament (USA)

One thing I didn’t think too hard about when building a European 3D printer (the Prusa MK3s): where am I going to get filament? Initial research indicates that cheap filament causes lots of problems; there can be issues with manufacturing tolerances, brittle/gummy textures, etc.

A little poking around suggests a couple of reliable sources/brands:

  1. Microcenter / Inland, $16/kg (in store)
  2. Amazon / Hatchbox, $24/kg (free shipping)

I’m still working on my first spool, so I haven’t tested either brand yet. Will update when I try these options.
